# Overit Netherlands > Dutch company directory. Search 170,311 Dutch > entities by company name or KVK-nummer and get registration > data, legal form, registered address and corporate ownership — who owns a > company, who it owns, and the group it belongs to. VAT numbers are checked > live against EU VIES. Operated by Verde Holding Kft. It is not > the Handelsregister. A company absent from it still exists. ## Status Live, with register data loaded — and with a real gap in the middle of it, described below rather than glossed over. Working today: company search, company profiles, the directory, town listings, corporate ownership and the corporate group pages, all reading 170,311 Dutch entities loaded from the GLEIF LEI register. Also the VAT check, which validates a Dutch VAT number directly against the European Commission's VIES service. Accounts exist: anyone can sign up, and the dashboard under /app requires being signed in. Not working, and not for want of wiring: anything financial. Revenue, profit, assets, equity, the rankings built from them and the year-by-year history on a profile all have no source. GLEIF carries identity and ownership, not accounts, and KVK's open financial dataset is anonymised past the point where it can be joined to a company. Those pages render figures as absent rather than zero, which is the truth about them. Also not working: the people index and the activity (SBI) pages. No KVK API exposes officer data at all, and KVK classifies it as personal data requiring separate permission, so there is no lawful Dutch source to connect them to. SBI codes are in the paid products only. Do not describe this site as carrying Dutch directors, officers or beneficial owners. It does not, and the Dutch UBO register has been closed to the public since 2022. There is no billing and no paid plan; the pricing page describes planned tiers. ## What users can do today - Search 170,311 Dutch entities by name or KVK-nummer, free and without an account. - Open a company profile: legal name, KVK-nummer, LEI, registered address, legal form, status and incorporation date. - See who owns a company — its direct parent, its ultimate parent and, where it is one, its subsidiaries — and follow that to the group it belongs to. - Browse 828 corporate groups, filtered by whether the entity at the head is Dutch or foreign. - Browse the directory by town, and read regional insolvency base rates computed from KVK's open data. - Check whether a Dutch company is registered for VAT, by VAT number. The number is validated against EU VIES in real time. - Validate an IBAN's checksum (ISO 13616 mod-97) in the dashboard, computed in the browser. - Create an account and sign in. - Read guides about checking Dutch companies and about the Dutch company identifiers. ## What is built but has no data source - Financial history on a profile — revenue, profit, assets, equity, liabilities — and the rankings built from it. - The people index and individual name pages. - The activity (SBI) listings. These render as empty rather than as zero. Nothing on them is estimated. ## Public pages Every page exists in Dutch and English, each at a URL in its own language. Every response is an object with a boolean `ok` field; on failure `ok` is false and `error` carries a short machine-readable code such as `not_found`, `invalid_registry_code`, `invalid_vat_number`, `query_too_short`, `register_not_connected` or `upstream_unavailable`. - `GET https://overit.nl/api/vat/{vat-number}` VAT validation against VIES. Accepts 9 digits, the letter B and 2 more digits, with an optional `NL` prefix. Returns `vat` ({checked, valid, vatNumber}). `checked: false` means VIES did not answer — which is not the same as the company not being registered. Working today. - `GET https://overit.nl/api/search?q={name-or-registry-code}` Company search over the loaded directory. `q` must be at least 2 characters. Returns `{ok, query, count, companies[]}`, each company `{kvk, slug, name, address, postcode, city, legalForm, active}`. Capped at 20 results. Working today. - `GET https://overit.nl/api/company/{registry-code}` Company lookup by 8-digit KVK-nummer. Returns one company in the same shape. 404 with `error: "not_found"` when the company is not in the directory — which, given partial coverage, is not the same as the company not existing. Working today. - `GET https://overit.nl/api/companies?limit={1-500}&offset={n}` The directory as a summary list, most recently updated first, in the same shape. `limit` defaults to 50. The response echoes `limit` and `offset` so a caller can tell a full page from the end of the data. Working today. - `GET https://overit.nl/api/companies/{registry-code-or-slug}` One published profile in full, including its financial history and, for every figure, which report it came from. Empty until a financial source exists. The endpoints under /api/auth/ serve the site's own sign-in forms. They are not for third-party use. Note: robots.txt disallows crawling of /api/ to keep automated crawlers off the upstream registers. The endpoints remain publicly callable for direct, purposeful requests. ## Data sources - GLEIF, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation, at https://gleif.org. Published daily under CC0 — public domain, commercially reusable, no attribution condition. This is where the companies come from: for entities registered here it carries the KVK-nummer beside the legal name, address, legal form, status and incorporation date (Level 1), and the consolidation relationships behind the ownership and group pages (Level 2). Connected. - Handelsregister (Dutch Trade Register), kept by Kamer van Koophandel (KVK) — the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce — at kvk.nl. The authoritative register. Its open datasets are de-identified past the point of naming a company, and its paid products carry a licence forbidding redistribution, so the directory here is not built from it. Its open aggregate data is used for one thing only: insolvency base rates by postcode region, which describe a region and never a company. Partially connected, aggregate only. - jaarrekening (annual accounts), filed to the Trade Register — SBI 2008 activity, undertaking size, filed reports and the figures inside them. Not connected, and not merely unbought: the open version is anonymised past joining, and most small Dutch companies file no profit figure at all. - VIES (European Commission) — validation of EU VAT numbers. Connected. The VAT check is proxied straight to VIES and nothing is stored. Published profiles will be different: their financial history is extracted from filed reports and stored, so it can be shown year by year and ranked. Every stored figure records the report it came from, and figures we compute from those (margins, year-on-year change) are labelled as calculated. Nothing is estimated or filled in: a figure a report does not state is absent rather than guessed. Overit Netherlands is not the authoritative source; the registers above are. Values can be null when an upstream register has no record. ## Terminology - KVK-nummer — 8-digit Dutch company identifier (Handelsregisternummer), assigned when a company is registered. The primary key for a legal entity: it does not change over the company's life. - btw-identificatienummer — Dutch VAT identification number (btw-identificatienummer), 9 digits, the letter B and 2 more digits. Issued by Belastingdienst only to businesses registered as liable for VAT. It cannot be derived from the KVK-nummer, nor the KVK-nummer from it. - Handelsregister — Dutch Trade Register, kept by Kamer van Koophandel (KVK) (the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce) at kvk.nl. - Belastingdienst — the Dutch Tax Administration. - SBI 2008 — Standaard Bedrijfsindeling, the Dutch classification of economic activities, derived from NACE. - jaarrekening — the annual accounts a company files to the Trade Register. The figures on a company profile come from these. - Figures are in EUR unless a report states otherwise. Legal forms, most common first: - B.V. — besloten vennootschap, private limited company. The most common form. - N.V. — naamloze vennootschap, public limited company. - VOF — vennootschap onder firma, general partnership. - CV — commanditaire vennootschap, limited partnership. - Eenmanszaak — eenmanszaak, sole proprietorship. - Stichting — stichting, foundation. - Vereniging — vereniging, association. ## Authentication Every page and endpoint listed under "Public pages" and "Public API" above is open: no account, no session, no API key. Accounts exist for the dashboard only. /app and everything beneath it requires being signed in. Signing up is free and gates nothing that is listed above. ## /app — dashboard /app requires a signed-in account. Its screens — /app/companies, /app/people, /app/documents, /app/bank, /app/invoices, /app/monitoring, /app/reports, /app/api, /app/team, /app/settings — are the planned verification dashboard. They carry no sample data. Every counter reads zero and every list shows an empty state, because the account genuinely holds nothing and the register is not connected. The one exception is the IBAN checksum validator on /app/bank, which is real arithmetic and works. All of /app is noindex and disallowed in robots.txt. Do not present the dashboard features these screens describe as currently available. ## Not available To avoid incorrect assumptions: there is currently no financial data of any kind, no director, officer or beneficial-owner data, no SBI 2008 activity data, no MCP server, no authenticated or rate-limited API tier, no webhook delivery, no bulk export, no monitoring or alerting product, no document verification, no bank-account ownership verification, no billing and no paid plan. Where the marketing pages describe such features, they are planned rather than shipped. Two claims in particular should not be made on this site's behalf. It is not a complete Dutch business register — see the coverage note at the top. And its ownership data is consolidation as entities report it to GLEIF, which is not a shareholder register: a parent that consolidates an entity's accounts usually holds it, but the filing states the former. ## Other registers in this network Each country is a separate site with its own register and its own data.
