KVK number
The eight-digit number the Chamber of Commerce assigns to every registration.
The KVK number is the permanent identifier of a business or legal entity in the Handelsregister. It does not change when the company moves, renames itself or converts to another legal form, and it is not reissued after the company is struck off.
That makes it the right field to key your own records on. Names are neither unique nor stable: a company may trade under several trade names and change them along the way.
Do not confuse it with the vestigingsnummer — twelve digits, identifying one branch rather than the legal entity you actually contract with.
