Current assets

What can be turned into cash within a year: inventory, receivables and money in the bank.

Current assets are the holdings that cycle through the business within a year — inventory, trade debtors, short-term receivables and cash.

Set against short-term liabilities, they show liquidity: whether the company can meet its near-term obligations without selling something it needs in order to trade.

A large receivables balance is not the same as cash. It is cash somebody else has yet to pay.
